Dave and Barb (and Holly – our Jack Russell) - run this lovely old pub – 15th century – part of it’s thatched and you can still see the original crux framed structure – all of it is very old – a little worn in places but plenty of atmosphere and comfort. The pub is smack in the middle of the country – and what beautiful country it is – up the road is a stunning old Norman church with 8 bells in the belfry and if you wander around the church yard you will discover a path that leads to lovely rural walks and scenery for which the Chiltern area is so well known. Park in our car park and come back for a meal – you can even order before you set off so it’s ready when you return.

In the pub you can sip on a traditional Brakspear ale or maybe a glass of wine (there are even some from NZ) or even a decent cup of coffee. Freshly cooked food – much of it locally sourced - is available from a comprehensive menu both for lunch (from 12) and dinner (from 6pm) everyday. Now that the weather has turned cold, home-made hearty stews, pork belly,  - as well as nourishing and a meal in itself soups - are some of the dishes that feature regularly.

The restaurant leads to a large garden with plenty of tables and umbrellas and a children’s play area. You can eat in the restaurant or alfresco in the large private garden – weather permitting (it hasn’t permitted too much lately) and at this moment, is covered in with a sprinkling of ice..

Dave a large store of firewood for winter –  it is so cosy around a real fire with the newspaper to read and a hot drink or a pint. There are three fireplaces that are roaring all the time.

Every Wednesday night is live music night at the Four Horseshoes. Book a table and come, have a meal and enjoy the entertainment.

Dogs are welcome in the bar area and garden – if well behaved, they may even get a dog biscuit!
